I use a piece of masking or paint tape put it on the wall where I want to hang it, then stand back to confirm the tape is straight (and/or use a leveler) and I use the tape to guide where to put my holes and hang it.

  • I use a level. Or tie a pretty ribbon through the holes and then you only need one nail or hanger.

Since you are likely to hang more than one item in your life, buy one of the levels with an LED or regular flashlight shining from the sides. You place the level near where you want to hang something, and the light and level show you a line you mark. For two holes, know the measurement you need between the nails and hangers and mark both places. ☺️

  • I use masking or painters tape...tear off a piece that covers one hole to cover the other hole...take a nail and puncture the tape over each hole...take off the tape and position it on the wall where you want to hang the plaque...pound nails in the holes on the tape and hang the placque

I use a piece of paper. Lay the paper on the back of the plaque and draw circles where the holes are, use a ruler and draw a straight line through the center of the holes, tape it where you want to hang the plaque, use a small level to make sure it is level then put your screws/nails into the wall through the paper, remove paper and hang your plaque.
