I had some leftover white oak and walnut square wood from work so I decided to create a DIY custom chess board. This is a fast and simple DIY project that you can create and enjoy for your home.
Step 1: Get all your materials ready. Step 2: Scatter the glue over the board and start laying the walnut and white oak wood pieces in a checker pattern. Step 3: Using a sand machine sand the board. Step 4: Fill in the gaps of the board with a wood filler. Step 5: Sand the board once more to get ride of the excess wood filler. Step 6: Cut out 2 by 4 sticks to put on the sides of the board. Step 7: Lastly apply the board with Bona novia  water-based finish
Suggested materials:
  • White Oak & Walnut Square Wood   (Home Depot)
  • Sandpaper   (Home Depot)
  • Glue   (Home Depot)

Great looking chess board! I remember making chess and backgammon boards from left over scraps when I made cutting boards.
