Easy Way to Upgrade a Waste Basket

The 2 Seasons

We recently added wallpaper to our powder room, and I am really happy with the way it turned out. I put some interesting patterns together and everything looked great together except the old wastebasket. It matched the powder room the way it looked before. I decided that some spray paint and a monogram would easily upgrade the waste basket.
In fact, this waste basket, which is a nice wood, was left here by the previous owners of our home. When we bought the place six years ago, I spray painted the waste basket aqua and decoupaged some French-inspired graphics that I found on line. When I needed it to fit in with our powder room's new look, I spray painted it a deep green that matches the gingham fabric used for the sink skirt.
The waste basket turned out just the way I hoped it would. It's a little bit preppy with the monogram, and the upgrade meant I was able to recycle something I already owned.
Then my daughter used her Silhouette Cameo machine to make a monogram in white for me. If you don't have a Cameo, you could use stencils and just paint your monogram on by hand. It might even be easier.
To apply the monogram, I attached it to one side and gently pulled away the backing. I made sure the letters were sticking to the waste basket. I could have added a coat of clear acrylic to add a coat of protection to the letters, but I decided to skip that step. This project took about an hour to complete and was basically free since we had all of the materials on hand. If you would like to see more of our powder room's new look, please visit our blog.
