Farmhouse Style Planked Coasters Made From Craft Sticks

I have some fun Planked Farmhouse Style Coasters to share with you plus I will show you a super easy way to transfer a graphic using parchment paper.
You can use your own graphics or I have some to give your for FREE.
Start out by cutting your craft sticks I cut mine 3 3/4 inch.
*Tip: wrapping painters or masking tape around the craft sticks where the saw makes the cut will help prevent the wood from splintering and breaking.
I used thin plywood for the backing of my coasters. If you don't have thin plywood you can use run the craft sticks perpendicular or across the back and adhere it all together.
Once the cuts were completed I glued the wood sticks to the plywood. I used five sticks for each coaster. Apply wood glue to the scrap wood and position the wood sticks to the plywood. Allow to dry then gently sand with 120 grit sandpaper. Apply a couple coats of spray paint and allow to dry.
Next I transferred the images using parchment paper.
*Make sure to reverse the image before printing.
I cut a piece of parchment paper large enough for my image, making sure the smoother/shinier side is face up. To print I printed one image at a time and taped a piece of parchment paper to a piece of printer paper. Once the image is printed do not touch the ink it will still be wet.
I positioned the parchment paper on the coaster and taped it in place. Then using a hard tipped item, I usually use the tip of a retractable pen, rub the image on the coaster using an up and down and back and forth motion. The ink will transfer on to the wood coaster and give it a perfect aged/rustic look.
I allowed the ink to dry then I applied a few coats of a matte spray sealer. I sampled a piece with painting on a sealer and it caused the ink to smudge even after waiting 24 hours, so it seemed that a spray sealer worked much better. Allow the sealer to dry for a full 24 hours before use. Then they are ready to grace your table and uphold your favorite beverages.
