How to Prep and Arrange Grocery Store Flowers
Today I will show you how I prep and arrange my grocery store flowers to look expensive and have a big impact!
I love picking up flowers at the grocery store. Especially if they’re on sale! I also love going to the flower shop and picking out fresh flowers from the cooler to take home and arrange myself!
I used to work in a flower shop when my boys were little and it was my all-time favorite job EVER! My boss became a lifelong friend and someone I look up to and the job was very life-changing for me during what was a hard time in my life. I didn’t do the fancy arranging. I did the smaller arrangements and watched the pros work their magic, but I was the one who got to deliver the flowers and that was the very best part of it all!
Flowers make people happy. It is the way it is. The smell, the colors, the thoughts, and the varieties. You can’t look at colorful flowers and be sad for very long! I cherish my days at the flower shop!
I took away a few tips while prepping the incoming flowers and getting them ready for the cooler. You’ll find some of them below.
Here’s one quick tip before we start – put scope mouthwash in the water of baby’s breath and any stinky flowers and they will smell fresh!
- Cut your stems and place in cold water
Using a sharp pair of floral scissors, cut your flower stems at an angle and put them in cold water immediately. I usually cut my stems right when I get home with grocery store flowers and give them fresh cold water. These stayed overnight before I arranged them.
Fill your vases with cold water. I chose these small ball jars they were simple and perfect for the colorful arrangement.
Going with the theme of easy, I just started placing 2 of each rose color making a teepee with the stems, and then adding the purple filler flowers at the end. It turned out perfect! Don’t overthink flower arranging. The flowers do all the work, make sure they all have a place to shine!
I chose to make 4 small arrangements rather than one large one. I felt like keeping it simple and low would allow for easy visiting across the table but there are times when I want a gigantic tall overflowing arrangement and that is a different post!
Really take the time to stop and smell the roses!
Stop and smell the roses! We hear the saying often, but do we listen to the meaning? I am working on this currently! I get overwhelmed with worry and stuff and all the things. Then, I am reminded of what God tells us.
“And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”
