Do you want to get high on shrooms? Well, you’re going to love today’s episode. Mushroom decor is everywhere at the moment, so this week we’re jumping on the trend by making a DIY mushroom plant stand.

Tools and materials:

  • 2 Dollar store cups (different heights)
  • 2 Dollar store bowls for the mushroom caps
  • Sandpaper
  • Acetone (optional)
  • Primer
  • Colored spraypaint
  • Circle stickers
  • Painter’s tape
  • Wax paper
  • Brown paint
  • Dotting tools
  • E6000 glue
  • White paint (optional)
Dollar store cups and bowls

All you need for this lazy-girl DIY are some bowls and cups from the Dollar Store, plus a bit of glue and paint. Let’s get started!

Sanding the cups with sandpaper

1. Sand the cups

First, lightly sand the cups and bowls with sandpaper.

Spraying the bowls with white paint primer

2. Spray with primer

Next, spray the cups and bowls with a white paint primer.

Covering up the designs with white paint

Ok, so this cup came with French phrases and images on it, and it was very difficult to cover up. What I should have done was remove the design with acetone first before spraying.

Placing dots on the mushroom caps

3. Place the dots

To give the mushroom caps their signature spot pattern, I cut out circles with painter's tape and stuck them on wax paper, then stuck them on my caps. I did the same with some bubble stickers for an irregular design.

Spraying the mushroom caps with color

4. Spray color

Then, spray paint the caps in your chosen colors. I’ve gone for pink and yellow. The pink is actually graffiti paint because I couldn’t find a good pink in regular paint.

Adding a design to the mushroom base

5. Add a design to the bases

I’m going to keep the mushroom bases white, but I’m adding some brown paint with a dotting tool for a speckled effect.

Let all the paint dry.

Peeling off the stickers

6. Peel off the stickers

Now it’s time to peel off the stickers and reveal the white dots underneath. How satisfying is this?

Some of the paint did come off when I peeled the stickers back, so I just touched them up with white house paint.

Gluing the base to the cap

7. Glue the base to the cap

Applying E6000 glue to the bottom of the cup, then stick it to the center of the bowl, as shown.
