After washing and lightly sanding mine I painted them the same color as the wall so they wouldn't stand out.
Paint them, mod podge them with napkins, gift wrap, wallpaper, embellish them.
I paint mine the color of the wall. Not the plug or switch itself.

Connie...You can paint, cover with wallpaper or contact paper or mod podge pretty 1 ply napkins then finish with polyurethane.
