If you're looking for a fun craft idea to do with the kids before the Summer ends, then you're going to love making this little bit of fishy boho decor together. It’s easy, inexpensive, and a great way to embrace bold happy colors while getting those creative juices flowing.

And if bold, bright, and crazy isn't quite your style, you can adapt the tutorial to suit your decor or color scheme. To make the boho fish you'll need:

  • Balsa wood or thick cardboard
  • Large beads
  • Skewer
  • Twine
  • Sharp craft knife or scissors
  • Pretty paper napkin
  • Craft paint in your choice of colors

This craft idea couldn’t be easier. Start by sketching a basic fish shape onto a piece of cardboard or balsa wood. Divide the fish into sections and use a sharp craft knife or pair of scissors to cut out. The number of sections will depend on how many colors you'll be using to decorate the boho fish.

If you're using balsa wood for this project use a sharp skewer to make a hole through the pieces.

If you're using cardboard you can skip this step icon Now for the fun bits. Treat each section of the little boho fish as a separate "canvas" and apply textures ..........

....or mod podge some paper napkins on for interesting patterns.....

.... or paint each section in a different color.

Get creative and play around. I combined texture paste with that gorgeous paisley napkin and painted bright happy colors on each section to make my boho fish. To put the fishy bits back together, string the sections together by making a large knot on one end of a piece of twine and insert it into the hole in the tail of the fish. Add a wooden bead, and then thread the twine through the hole in the next section. Repeat until all the bits are joined. Tie a knot at the head end to hang.

So easy and loads of fun. Now I'd love to know what colors and patterns would you use when you make one? Will it be bright and bold like this one?

Oh BTW, if you enjoy easy boho decor, you're going to love this gorgeous little trinket box we made from an empty roll of packing tape and a pebble icon

It appears you place the fish outside. Do you spray coat it with anything to protect the fish against the elements? Thanks
