Building a Sofa Table

I discovered Ana-White.com a couple of years and since then my husband and I have made several tables. Our first was a sofa table that we planned to put behind our couch in our family room. We reasoned that if we did a poor job, we'd hide it!
We built it out of very cheap 'white wood.' All the wood for this table cost $60.

This type of wood is "rustic" so if you want something more formal, you'll need to buy better quality wood. But I wanted rustic and love the feel it gives our home.
You can find the plan for this table, and many others, at Ana-White.com. We also bought the Kreg jig ($40) that she recommended and it's made all the difference.
I stained the table with Min-Wax gel wax in Aged Oak.
I didn't use any other products on it. The gel wax left a nice finish.
And here it is in our family room. Now we're sorry it's hidden here because it turned out so well!
We enjoy having it here instead of end tables on either side of the couch. You can find more furniture that we've built or refinished on my blog.
