I've heard staining is a good technique for updating floors. So how do I stain my wood floor?
Mary...If it is hardwood I would call a professional. If it is just subfloor you will need a scraper with a long handle. Will take some elbow grease...my husband did a house we are fixing up. I thought Goo Gone might help but he used nothing because it was old and really dry. Good luck!
Depends on what is under the carpets. If you are lucky enough to have untouched hardwood floors, have them refinished by the pros. If not, then you need to decide what type of flooring you want.
you could even paint the floor ... especially if it's builder grade plywood ( NOT Particle board) ... OR.... I think this is SOOO neat ... not sure of the 'wear' factor, but I love the way it looks ... https://www.hometalk.com/diy/floors-ceilings/paper-bag-floors-1147044

If it is hardwood, rent an orbital sander. It is easy to do, just keep it moving. I did mine in no time at all. Then two coats of stain and 3 coats of poly, waiting days in between to make sure that each dried properly.
