A neighbor friend once told me that clematis like cool feet. Be sure to mulch kindly. The hate rocks. That advice was super helpful for my clematis issues!

I plant something small at the clamitis feet. I sprinkle with 1/4 cup epson salts, water it into the soil, & cut off the old spent flowers (the plant is using energy on the old flowers). As the plant gets older & stronger the blooms get bigger and bigger. Hope that helps.

Clematis like full sun but their roots need to be kept cool. I Use rocks to shield them from the sun and I find this works well. My clematis are beautiful this year. I water as needed but go easy of the fertilizer.
