How to build a cage for peonies to keep them from drooping?

You can cut a tomato cage in half and use the wider top half around the bush.

We usually put some stakes in the ground and tie string around the outside of the plant to support it.

You could use a tomato cage, they work great!

If you have some wire fencing you could just make a circle out of that and put if over the plants. That would give them enough support to hold them up and also keep medium sized critters out too.

You could try a small trellis. They get pushed right into the dirt in the pot. They give great support for any plants that vine. I have two. Good luck.

We used thin twine and tied them up. You never even see it and if done loosely, it won't damage the plants at all.

Hi Marilyn: Mine always droop, no matter what I do. But, what I do to mitigate the drooping is to put a circle of 7 or 8 posts into the ground, depending on the size of the plant, and then crisscross string from one post to the other, on a couple of levels, making a bunch of squares in the inside area. As the flowers grow, I make sure they are growing through the openings. This helps, but the heads are so large, they flop over. But that's o.k., they flop on the string :)

Put them in a tall vase make criss crosses across the vase with tape after you add water then put each one in a hole to hold it up.
