If your roses are on private property I suggest getting one of those cameras for outside surveillance. Once you see who it is and have the tape you can go to the police.

  • Well, let's see. You could just post a sign asking people to politely stop cutting them. Do you have security cameras that may cover that space? Maybe then you can find out. Or you could make a dummy sign, say something like, "Smile nice for the camera" - even if you do not have a security system, they would never know. Franky it is just plain rude. I have never plucked anything out of someone's yard without permission first. The nerve of people today . . .

Hello Wrk; You must have a Lovely yard!!!

I am guessing that you have the same issue that I do.

When I am not here, people come into my yard and cut huge pieces out of some of my plants.

I had to make signs, and post them outside.

Consider making a sign that says something to this effect: "Please do not cut Anything in this yard without the Owners Permission!!"

After I posted that, I have not had anymore problems with plant thieves.

I hope that this helps you!!! I am sorry that you are having to go through this!!

    Take Care!

Unfortunately, sweet likely won't work with people who feel entitled to trespassing and theft. Maybe your warning sign should cite the statute and penalty for trespass and theft/destruction of property in BIG LETTERS.

A fence , a "trespassers will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law " sign. Hang it right next to one that says "smile you're on camera " technically they are destroying private property so if you do get pictures , call the police .

I found that, after I started sharing my roses with my neighbors (especially with the neighborhood children), they stopped helping themselves. It was a good way to meet the neighbors and to explain that we liked to take our blooms to rose shows, but the day after a show we would be happy to cut bouquets for them.
