Cut down hostas HELP

Hello. They should recover. I divide mine harshly with a knife or shovel chopping in segments and they recover well.

They should recover but will be small. Starting over basically. Make sure to feed them.

That's good to hear you do have shoots coming up, the plant may be smaller but they will survive!

If you have shoots - then they are alive! It may take some time for them to get back to the original size - but they will! Give them extra fertilizer!

Hostas grow from tubers. Leaves can be cut back when they die off to allow for new growth. They will come back. You've got shoots than they will survive.

Yes they will be fine. They grow from a bulb so as long as you see the shoots it they will grow back like normal

Oh Adrienne thank you so much for responding, I’m wondering if they will grow out to be the size they were. I had a few that were around 3 feet in diameter, they also cut down all my lily of the valley. I see some shoots came up. I’m so disheartened because in 28 yrs they were never cut down, it looks horrible.

Hi there, my husband is a "cut it all down in fall" kind of gardener. It drives me nuts. He literally mows our hostas to the ground and every year they come back fuller and bigger than before. We're in the northeast, not sure if climate plays a part, but he's been doing it for 25 years and we have to thin them out every season they're so big.

Hostas are perennials, they will send up new shoots and will return each year. While they may not be quite as big and beautiful this year, they should recover fine by next season and I would find a new landscaper!
