I had painted my kitchen cabinets about 4 years ago. They were originally oak but I painted them white. Over the years they chipped and were in need of an upgrade. I researched and found a great durable paint! Best of all, it didn't need to be sealed! My cabinets look incredible! Check out the great new fresh look!

Original sink with standard cabinets that had previously been painted white.

My original paint job was not durable. I decided to update the sink, the appliances and the hardware in the process. Why not go big??

Selecting a more durable paint.

My choice of paint is Sherwin Williams Industrial enamel. I figured if this paint works on industrial equipment, it should be suitable for my kitchen. I also used the appropriate Sherwin Williams primer for oil based paints. Primer always makes your paint adhere better to the surface.

Sand and spray the cabinet doors

It is always critical to prep your surface before painting. First, I cleaned the surface by washing with warm soapy water or wiped with TSP solution. Then I lightly sanded the surface. I sanded both sides of the doors and took them outside. I used my Homeright Super Finish Max paint sprayer to achieve a smooth finish on all of the doors. I used the same prep steps on the upper and lower cabinets and then hand painted them. First I applied the primer. You can do a light sanding after you apply the primer or you can skip this step if the primer is smooth. I allowed the primer to dry overnight and then sprayed the enamel. Again, I allowed the doors to dry overnight.

New Knobs and Hinges

I reinstalled my doors with new white hinges, upgraded from the dingy dated original brass hinges. The I installed my beautiful new hammered copper knobs that match my gorgeous new sink. Thanks to DLawless hardware! They have a wonderful selection!

The finished cabinets!

The cabinets are so fresh and clean! the white is so complimentary to my new hammered copper farmhouse sink! This process of painting the cabinets has completely transformed my kitchen!
