Gorgeous Green Damask Magazine Rack

You know I like to give boring wooden magazine racks some personality. This dark stained one was refreshed in a soft green with a soft worn damask stencil design, so pretty don't you think?

I picked this solid wood magazine holder up at our local church rummage sale. It is a great fundraising event for the community and always has loads of treasures to be found.

It was missing some of the wood button screw covers but that is fixable. I took it apart and gave it a good cleaning as step 1.

All surfaces were lightly scuff sanded with a Dixie Belle sanding sponge to give the paint a surface to stick to better. Edges that were dinged were also sanded smooth.

Using the flat medium Dixie Belle synthetic brush I applied the soft green color called tide pool from  Dixie Belle silk paint line.

The first coat is on, using paint pyramids allows for both sides to be painted and left to dry. After about 4 hours a second coat was applied again to all sides.

Using the sanding sponge again all surfaces where sanded lightly to make the silk paint feel like silk and then used to distress the edges a bit to reveal the original stain.

To add some pizzazz, serenity a soft blue from the silk line was stenciled on with the royal damask  Dixie Belle stencil.

The stencil was put on both ends and inside bottom of the rack. When dry again the stenciled areas were lightly sanded for an aged worn effect.

Once dry it was all put back together. Replacement wood button plugs were sourced and painted to match.

It is now ready to serve!

This (now) perky looking magazine rack would cost a lot more in a fancy shop than what you paid for materials to create it. Thanks for sharing your project.
