The idea of using palm and fans to create a DIY woven lampshade has been churning in my head all summer. I can’t believe I’m just getting around to doing it now…

All you need to make your own are 6 woven fans. Maybe get a spare one because they make a stylish addition to an outfit in their primary fanning function!!

You'll need at least 6 woven bamboo fans for this project. They come in different shapes and colors - you definitely don't need the same exact ones I used to recreate this DIY!

Start by cutting the bamboo fan handles short with a handsaw.

Coat the fans with a medium oak wood stain, or a similar warm stain.

Wrap some gold or brass-colored bendable metal wire around the base of the fans.

To assemble the lampshade, take a fan and loop the metal wire right above the light socket on your light fixture. Proceed one by one, adding fans by looping the wire (and cutting short if necessary) until you’ve added all 6 fans.

Finally, spread the fans evenly around the light fixture. You can pin together overlapping fans with invisible nylon thread if needed.
