How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets
If your cabinets are real wood, you can sand and re-stain them. You’ll need to strip the finish, sand smooth, clean away debris and stain. Top with a clear finish. This is not as easy as painting, but completely doable. It may be helpful to watch some tutorials before starting if you have never done furniture refinishing before. Good luck.
When stripping wood cabinets to make them lighter, you will need a stripper that says it removes stain on the front of the can..... I always used Kleen Strip which is toxic so ventilate with a fan and do what you can outside (take doors off and number with tape on the back and same for drawers on a chart) Wear heavy gloves and I use steel wool once I've scraped them to get the stain out of the pores Go from 000 to 0000, a wire brush the size of a toothbrush will get into the details and corners of the cabinet fronts. Once the wood is clean you can restain or pickle/whitewash the cabinets.
If you are considering painting them there a lots of projects on hometalk showing you how people have done, which products they have used and how they have prepped. https://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=paint%20kitchen%20cabinets
