Hello. Paint can transform your space quite easily and economically. Perhaps viewing galleries on Pinterest or houzz can help you defined the style that you appreciate the most. Here’s a link for one transformation.

Cabinets gets my vote over the washer & dryer. If you have room for a small closet rod (mine is to the right of the dryer), it's great to hang items and prevent wrinkling out of the dryer. Paint a cheerful color.

I have a small laundry room so I put a cabinet over the washer and dryer, added a couple of shelves on the opposite wall and put my hampers under the shelves and I have plenty of room without stuff being stacked on the floor

Hi Irene, most laundry rooms seem to be small or multi-purpose used as an entry from the garage or back yarad. My suggestion is to go vertical with as much storage space as possible, perhaps an area to hang clothes as the come out of the dryer, and if you iron, an ironing board that can flip down for easy use from a door or cabinet area. If you have room, storage next to the washer/dryer rather than above would be excellent. Happy colors might help with the design so one actually enjoys being in the laundry room for a while! :)

Please tell us a little more about what type of features you wish to have in your laundry room. For example, would you like storage for extra laundry supplies, proper space to hang up drying clothing, to get laundry baskets off the floor, a clear folding space, a wall mounted small trash can, better lighting, a fan, etc.

Of course no space is seldom perfect, so begin with your top three needs.

Is there anything in the laundry room that can not be moved, or absolutely needs to stay, for example, an electrical panel box on the wall, a window, etc?

If you post a picture of you laundry room now, we could immediately see what sort of space you have to work with. We would then be better able to offer you suggestions on what you might do to improve the functionality and attractiveness of the room.

I have a small utility room. My washer, dryer and water heater is in the room. I put cabinets over my washer and dryer. I had them put up from the ceiling to give me plenty of space.

Hello Irene: I have a small 2 tiered metal shelf between my washer and dryer, placed sideways so that the skinny side is the one showing. I put my cleaning products on the shelves, and the bottom shelf holds one of those large laundry soap dispensers with the spigot on it, and a measuring cup under the spigot. This way I only have to push the button to get the soap out, and I can refill it with any liquid detergent that's on sale :) Here's a picture of it. https://www.target.com/p/tide-original-liquid-laundry-detergent-154-fl-oz-160/-/A-77598304. Behind that, I put extras of softener, bleach, etc. The top shelf has the other stuff I use, like softener sheets, softener, bleach, vinegar, spot cleaner, etc. This saves a lot of room and only takes up about 9 or 10 inches, if that, and it's as long as the washer and dryer. Maybe you can do something like that.

No idea what you want to do. Add shelving? Places for storage? Place to hang clothes.
