I've had this old Ikea nightstand for four years, and it was bought secondhand for about 50$. I have wanted to paint it forever, but I didn't want to just paint it another color so I've been holding off.
I asked my friend to help me paint it Ombre, after some nice Hometalkers informed me that painting furniture Ombre is doable!
We are planning a marketplace on Hometalk, where you will be able to consult with other Hometalkers to help you do DIY projects. I was trying it out myself, and so I hired a fellow Hometalker to help me with the ombre technique over a video call.
She gave me a list of all the materials I needed, and listed out some steps, and once I got to the Ombre part, she hopped on a call to guide me while I created all different shades of blue.

Here's the before. Ugly ugly TV stand.
Step 1: Sand it down. Apparently Ikea furniture will not have paint stick to it because it usually has some sort of lacque on it. Sanding it down allows the paint to stick better. This part was not so fun and got all my clothes dirty.
That's me, sanding away!
Step 2: I painted the front panes of the TV Stand with a rustoleum brand Pearl spray paint + primer in one. I thought it would be a nice contrast to the blue/white ombre.
Step 3: I painted 2 layers of white paint on one half of the TV stand.
Step 4: I painted 2 layers of aqua paint on the other half of the TV stand.
Step 5: I called my DIY coach, who helped me o create 4 different shades of blue, and she taught me over the video call, how to add the Ombre effect, without it looking stripey. This was much more difficult then it looks! Ombre is serious technique!
Step 6: I let that dry for a day, and then used a Rustoleum spray paint primer to seal it all in.
Here's my finished TV stand. I'm in love!

Would any of you fellow Hometalkers hire someone to help you do a project that you don't think you could do on your own? Let me know in the comments, would love to hear your thoughts!
