You will need to run electric to the column from either the main or tap into an existing outlet. Be sure to follow local code. There are many solar powered lights available now! Some are bigger than others an even look like old gas lighted poles that can attach to the house or columns and are classy. They come in copper, black, or white too. Solar lights would be a great choice! -

I put a solar motion detector light up on one of my clients houses..... works great. Got it a Lowes.
