You could go to Restore and try to find a cabinet to fit the space or install several staggered floating shelves for seldom used platters and appliances .

  • My vote is to use it to display anything tall that will look pretty!

You could add some shelves and store the kitchen stuff you don't use very often (i.e. holiday platters/china). Or you could store kids board games up there, cookbooks, extra linens & dish towels. You could add a television with one of those brackets that hold the flat screen tv's up on the wall. Lots of things...good luck!

You can build or purchase a pull out spice rack.

  • I think some open shelves with canisters or jars might look nice

Sally you and I have the same situation with the placement of the refrigerator. Mine is a side by side and even closer to the wall. I have a hard time opening the right side wide enough. O.k. your situation, is tricky because you have a gap by the wall and two different widths on the left. I think I would not try to obscure these differences but go with them, by having a shelf put; the same depth and height as the bulkhead over to the wall. Then I would do the same with the cupboards, a shelf the same depth as the cupboard, and extending to the wall.

That would allow double the storage/display area. From the brief glimpse of your wall decorations it appears you like Americana or maybe early American decor. You could get vintage kitchen items to display there. If you need more storage for useful items you could use this for them. Neatly organized they make (In my opinion) perfectly acceptable display items.

I agree with Emily, But add Panels at side of cabinet and on wall to make it look as if it was designed that way...

I would add a little 2 or 3 shelf cabinet up there even with the bulkhead, and use a wooden fascia piece stained the color of the cabinets as the filler piece. Great place to store the crockpot, roaster etc.

You could also build a wine rack up there too. or if you have a lot of serving platters build a plate rack up there.

I had the same problem and hung a pot rack. I put the pots that I don't use too often and saved valuable cabinet space. It looks great too!

I had the same space...I added a shelf along the back and the side wall...then all my special coffee mugs that I collect have its own display shelf...and no more empty space..

I like the idea of a "pot rack" but I'm going to hang multiple baking pans!
