Concerned about tripping?
Hi, any suggestions on what I can do to put in place so this isn't a tripping concern. I'm not sure I could find a mat high enough. Maybe 3/4 round wood??

What you need here is called a transition reducer piece. These are pre-made strips of wood or metal that are high on one side, and slope down to a low side. They are designed to fit over different types and heights of flooring.
Hello there,
Might I suggest a shallow ramp which you cover with a piece of carpet!
We have shallow ramps in our home. The house came with them when we bought it (previous owner was in a wheel chair) and we took them out, only to replace them, It is a much easier transition from 1 room to the other when the step up is a few inches.

Here's a link to the transition pieces that may work for you:

Yes it’s for your safety and smashed toe prevention I would suggest going to the hardware store and look at the angled threshold they have to reduce this drop. You’ll be happy you installed it.
You can add a transition threshold on the inside. That's what I would do.
a thicker mat isn't the answer because then you can't open or close the door without removing it or trimming off some of the door bottom and replacing the sweep- I would add a transition reducer piece on the inside - take the photo to Home Depot or any hardware store and they can help you find the right item
You can by threshold transition strips at most big box home improvement stores. Take the measurements for the width of the doorway and the neight from the top of the present piece and the flooring. Purchase will cost under $20, most likely.
You definitely need a transition strip. You can find them at all flooring stores or Home Depot or Lowes
If you go to Lumber Liquidators, Home Depot or Lowe's they have various transition trim pieces in metal, wood etc. to make it smooth walking. Easy to install too. https://www.llflooring.com/search?q=transition+molding&search-button=&lang=en_US
