Hi Marg,
What width are you talking about?
You can use it as tabs to run a rod thru. Too limp to use in place of a rod.
If the curtains are strung up on a rope instead on a rod, it will be difficult to open and close the curtains with any ease, due to the texture of the rope.
Finding suitable hardware to attach the ends of the rope to, so that will stay anchored and not damage the surface it is mounted into, may be challenging.
Hi Marg!
I think this is a great idea, and I have seen it done.
Here you go.

String it up securely and use Curtain rings to hld curtains.
Depends on what material the curtains are. You wouldn't want to hang a material from sisal rope that would snag. Is there a reason for not hanging them from a rod?
