Hollow Tree to Fairy Tree

Eventually the tree will be lopped off shorter and perhaps an extended shingled roof added. Meanwhile the fairies seem happy with what we came up with.

My husband made a cardboard template to cut a piece of scrap wood to best fit the open side of the tree. He then cut a wide doorway and a window opening. I liked how he added split twigs around the opening of the doorway. And I had a window left over from another project which was glued into place. He added a shingled roof over the doorway, a porch, and a smokestack. I think the house address is a cute touch.

The wood frame unit was screwed into the tree over the hole.

The door mat is a drink coaster and was hot glued into place. The wicker flower basket was from a doll house. The curtain was a pink piece of an old hand towel.

I think I will add steps or a ladder to this soon. Perhaps from the porch over to the upright cut branch on the lower right.

My granddaughter added the furniture inside which is from an outgrown dollhouse. Actually the white "table" for the teapot is the thing the pizza place puts in the box to keep the cheese from sticking to the box lid, lol. Hey, it works!

The green "grass carpet" was a leftover sample from the store and was cut to fit.

At night with a flashlight it's fun to peek inside. Whenever we feel the tree needs to be cut down/shortened we will probably add a solar powered light on top to light up the inside. But for now this it. We like it and are pretty sure the fairies like it. Do you?
