Making a rain chain, using small flower pots from the dollar. I need something to put through the hole in the bottom of the pot to hook the chain together. Any suggestions would be great.

If the pots are plastic you can just drill holes with a regular drill bit. If they are clay pots you will need a masonry drill bit. Start slow with the masonry bit so not to crack the pot.

You could use a large nail strung through the chain. The nail would lay across the bottom of each pot.

I personally always find roaming around the hardware store is a great way to find things you wouldn't ordinarily think of as solutions. Your best bet is the rope and chain section, like a quick link.

There are "S" shaped hooks that you could put through the hole in the bottom, available at stores like Harbor Freight, Home Depot, Lowes.

I would buy a wooden dowel the same diameter as the hole in the pots from the hardware store, cut down to 3/4" to 1", then I would pre-drill a hole in the dowel piece slightly narrower than a hook for the chain
