If you mean on the ground. Make the ground level and remove any excess dirt. Tamp it down, maybe moisten it a bit before tamping it down good. Add sand to cover the bottom of the level ground. Lay flat stones or bricks on the sand keeping them level north to south and east to west AND with each other. Add more sand as needed to take up space or add mortar between them as you lay them down.Helpful Reply -

This small brick patio was constructed as Lenora says with found bricks. Has lasted well over many years. Just needs weeding and sweeping.Helpful Reply -
