Bookcase makeover

I have an old partical board bookcase with 5 shelves. It measures 30” across and is 72” high. I would like some ideas on giving the back of the shelves an update. Sorry I don’t have any pictures.

You could use wallpaper or scrapbook paper.
You could use contact paper or even gift wrap as well. Or you could use fabric. Or wall decals. Here are some images and ideas:

you can get a spray paint from Wal-Mart that is similar to stucco paint in a variety of colors then use a few wire baskets scattered on shelf’s with other decor.

You can use thinned down white school glue to glue the fabric or paper you use. If you can remove the thin board from the back, you can paint or glue all in one piece. Then nail or tack it back on. ☺️
You could, but it wouldn't be the only way to attach it. A spray adhesive might be a good choice.
I would also cover imperfections.
There are an assortment of textured spray paint. One I’ve seen is Krylon stone textured spray paint. You can tell mostly by the Lid of the can.
