Lots of ideas on Pintrest... https://www.pinterest.com/explore/decorating-lampshades/
I use Contact Paper or Wall Paper on the outside of the shade. You can also use Material or even ribbons.
Depends on the look you are going for.
I would clean the lampshade well before applying any of these ideas. I would also make sure that any glue or adhesive you use is "heat proof" as the bulb gets very hot.
My favorite idea for lamp shades I stold from my mom. She would cover the shade with a bright fabric. Then add a dangling trim around the bottom. Sometimes 3D butterflies were placed on the fabric. I hope this gives you some ideas.
I did one recently.I spray painted the shade and then decorated the border with rhinestones the top and bottom.
Wallpaper works great and then ribbon at the top and bottom edge to give it a Finnish that is more professional..or lace or upholstery trim. You can also apply burlap with mod podge and use Rick rack or hemp string at the top and bottom. Good luck with what ever you pick!
You can change up the look of a plain shade by stenciling, decoupaging, painting, or even wrapping the shade in fabric, a scarf, or printing out a design on computer and gluing it to the inside of the shade.
Honestly, you're really only limited by your imagination here and can use lots of different materials to dress it up. Take a look around and see if you have any crafting items, fabric, or trim you'd like to adhere or maybe let your artistic flair take over with some paint.
Paint, Decoupage, Use Transfers, Wallpaper, Contact paper, Stencil etc.
