How do I update this vintage Burlington sewing box/bench????
The leather (maybe vinyl?) Is torn on top in a few places. All the rest is in tact. I need to fix one leg and def want to paint them, sticking with the blue/tan/orange color scheme. Any idea on how to upcycle this little guy! PS I'm not good at upholstery lol...

i sent in question forgot picture . Need ideas on how to redo this chair.
This would be easy to reupholster since there is binding. It would make great storage for sofa throws when not in use.
Hi Jennifer, you could purchase a solid color fabric large enough to cover the lid of the piece and perhaps paint the legs in the same tone. Here's how to reupholster chair seats and you'd just use a similar method. You may be able to carefully remove the trim, reupholster, then reapply the trim.

I would take off the material and see what is underneath. Probably paint in and add new trim where the gold is now. Restain the legs dark or paint a contrasting or different shade than the rest. You could add decorative tacks all around instead of the current gold trim piece that looks dated. SO many cool nails and tacks in all shapes and colors online.
What a great find. You can recover with material or paint it. If you decide to recover, use upholstery tacks that are decorative to hold the material in place. You will run a strip of them where the gold is now which, if I'm not mistaken, is holding the current material in place.
How to Reupholster a Bench – a DIY for Beginners

I would go to JoAnn's fabircs and look at their clearance section. The bench has binding around it, and that can be removed. Follow Mogie's advice on how to reupholster a bench, it is right on and easy to do. Take your time, get a staple gun.
The covering on this sewing basket stool is definitely vinyl, not leather.
Once removed, the vinyl trim may crack and may not be able to be reattached.
An alternative is to use other types of upholstery trim, (sometimes called gimp)
Here are some examples:
Cute! I think I would recover the box with new fabric and decorative trim. This is not a hard project, just remove anything that can't be covered and go right over the old fabric.
you could recover it with a nice updated fabric and paint the legs

Slip a Pillowcase over the top?
Don't forget the legs. Either changing them out or painting the ones you have would also help give this a new look. Is there any hardware on this piece?
Take off the material get new legs at Home Depot then paint it maybe do a nice stencile on front
That would make a great footstool, I can't quite tell the height. Pad it and then reupholster - add some colorful braid. It will look great!
