You can use a stripper and steel wool to remove chalk paint but it would be a messy time consuming job and a some point you would probably have to do some sanding. You can use mineral spirits to remove just the wax if you are interested in repainting. If the chalk paint and wax have been on the furniture for some time and it is fully cured you can just paint over it with more chalk paint.
Get a paint stripper called Citristrip.
Your best option is to get some paint stripper, available at Home Depot or Lowe's, you'll also want a gallon of denatured alcohol to wipe the piece down with when through. Paint stripper is no less work or mess than sanding.

How to remove chalk paint
Paint stripper did not even budge this chalk paint.
Strip it, and use 0000 steel wool when you have most of the paint off to get it out of the wood grain. If there is lots of moulding and detail in the piece, I also use mini brass brushes (size of a toothbrush) to get the paint out. I much prefer to strip, than sand.
I understand you can use mineral spirits to remove the wax. You will need to sand the paint off after that.
Lay piece on back. Soak towels in thinner. Lay towels on paint. Lay plastic on towels and lay heavy cloth over plastic. Wait time varies, check corners. Do not let dry out, peel off coatings, use file or scraper tools, or reapply stripper or whatever your solvent more thick, tie plastic against it, do not get in eyes. Big blue safety gloves.
