How to remove wooden table top from wooden frame?

Look underneath for bolts that hold it to the legs. After they are removed, the top should come loose. If it's glued try vinegar or rubbing alcohol to dissolve the glue - gently prying it away with a putty knife.

Turn the table over and see what is holding the top and legs together, it is usually some kind of screw system. Just back the screws out and it should come apart.

Depending on how the table has been constructed or assembled, the top may have been glued on, or it may have hidden pegs. If you can not see any bolts holding it together, please post a picture of the underside so that we can see what you are starting with.

there should be bolts, stapes or nails under the table top you can remove easily if all else fails then just saw the top off and then sand it down

if you take the screws out of the board the base should come with it unless it is glued on- you would need to turn it upside down to do this

I would get help because the table and base will be very heavy and then you will have to get it put back together.

It's possible pocket screws were used and were plugged, which means you have little chance of finding them. If none of the other suggestions work for you, then use an oscillating mult-tool fitted with a metal cutting blade. You will be able to cut through any screws or glue holding the top with minimal damage. You could also bend a mini-hacksaw blade and work your way along the seam between base and table, but that's a ton of work.

Instead of taking it off, can you just build the gaming part on top of what is already there?

Much good advice already provided here and I agree that most likely the legs are bolted/screwed onto your table, so just remove those and see if the top can be removed. Some tables also have glue so the vinegar suggestion will likely work for that. If the vinegar isn't working well, then try WD-40. Here's a link to many other amazing uses for WD-40.

If alse fails - saw the frame off.

Methylated spirits dissolve glue if you flood it. It also removes built up wax and polish.

We turned an old dining table into a kitchen island by adding taller legs. The old ones were bolted on, however we were prepared to saw them off if they were glued in.
