Painting ideas ?

I always love the ideas that come from Hometalk. I would like to repaint and flip this antique piece which I bought for $40. I am looking for a classic look with a modern twist that is currently in style (navy, grey, green. Two tone look?) along with replacing the hardware. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts and ideas.

Thank you!

  • I think it would be pretty is a shade of teal with new hardware. You could also sand and stain the top a dark walnut while painting the rest.

Hi Janie, chalk paint will make this piece look gorgeous and unique! It's my favorite finish!! Hope this helps you out,

Sorry but first thing I think of is bathroom vanity. But a fresh coat of paint and new hardware could really change the look of the piece. Go classic with white paint and black hardware.

If there was someway to highlight or accent the molding at the bottom that would be nice since you can't find furniture with those details anymore.

  • If you're looking to flip it, research the latest trends in colors and finishing then choose one you feel will also have a timelessness to it.

I would go 2 tone with navy or turqoise. If you can keep the hardware, I would but the knob on the door looks like it has to be replaced. You need all matching if you replace it.

yeah, the knob is broken. Thank you for the great color choice ideas!

If this is a true antique, just sand and re-stain.

If this were my piece, I would fill in the recessed areas, and then sand. I would then paint the entire item using Primer, Undercoat and then a top coat of a chalk paint followed by Antique Wax to seal. or Top coat of Satin Paint. I might have thought about covering the filled in recessed areas in fabric or something like cane table mats etc. and then clear varnish entire piece. The choice is yours!

I think you should leave the top brown as it is. But then paint the rest of it an ivory, light gray, or darker gray. Distress it if you want. It's a beautiful piece!

This dresser was in real bad shape when I got it! I do like how it turned out. I used Rust-Oleum painter's touch paint. This paint is great to work with, has a nice finish and comes in several colors.
