Wall stencil question
So I found this amazing wallpaper this past weekend. Decided it was perfect. But then I saw the price tag. Am
wondering if any of your DIY people would take on this as a paint project. If so, does anyone know where I could get 24 inch square or triangle stencils to make this happen. I suppose I could mess sure it out, but it’s on a 17 foot long wall and if it is “off” it will look weird. I’d almost rather paint than screw up the wallpaper with a grid like this. Thoughts appreciated.

I have never stenciled a wall but know folks who do it to walls, floors, porches, etc. They measure the wall and then tape off the shapes and paint.

You could achieve this look without a stencil. You could use painters tape!
This video shows you how to make the stencils with tape.

I would think finding the center point would be most important, so that the wall ends up "even" and wouldn't be "off" at all.
You could also buy premade stencils at a store like Micheal's or another craft store.
Premade stencils would be the way to go if you want to stencil, painters' tape would be simpler and less time consuming. Measure twice, paint once.
Take a step back and look at your outline.
Here's a tutorial you might find helpful. The triangle pattern is different than what you want to do, but the same process could be used. https://www.semiglossdesign.com/geometric-accent-wall
I have painted squares in the past. First, I painted the entire wall the lighter color. Then I marked off the vertical line markers at the top and bottom of the wall and used a chalk line to pop it, then tape it. Repeat horizontally. You could do this and then add the line to split the squares. You can skip the taping if you are good at using a tapered brush to paint the squares.
Another option would be to purchase a builder's square with the cross bar for the triangle.
Yeap another vote for painter tape and here is a site that deals with that subject:

My neighbors daughter stencil's her walls. She plans them out with painter's tape. Then paints one section at a time. It is very tedious and you have a lot of math involved so that you get the right angles. Have fun with this, You can paint whatever colors you want to.
I think you can do paint to get the look you want by measuring the entire wall in inches and deciding on how large to make the squares for a balanced look. You could then divide some of the squares into the triangles as shown. Likely this could/would be best completed with masking tape rather than a stencil. I'd compare it to a process similar to blocking the design on a quilt. Use of graph paper and noting which paint color on which square, etc.
I agree with Dee's comment that trying to tape out triangles on a wall this size would indeed be very tedious. You would have to make sure all your tape lines were level and all the corners were measured carefully and squared off with each other in order to prevent the design from looking wonky. The task would be further complicated by a wall that, as you said, was already 'off', aka not having sides that were completely level.
If you really have your heart set on having a wall of this design, I would suggest that you try the project on a wall much smaller first, just to get some experience with using stencils and painting similar shapes. Depending on to what extent the results of the small project meets with your expectations, you can then decide if you want to put the work and money into doing a large wall.
you can paint half with the same color and half with another color using painter tape.
I think painter's tape would be the best option for this kind of paint job. Here is a tutorial that may be able to help you. Good luck!

I would tape off the design with painter's tape and then paint it.
There are lots of stencil places online to check, including Etsy where you might be able to get a custom one made. Or you could buy some plastic and cut your own stencil.
Either way, you’ll be doing quite a bit of checking for level and taping. You can do this with tape as well if you want to skip a stencil. Get or borrow a long level to make things easier. Paint the entire wall one of the colors then lay the pattern out.
It looks time consuming putting on and taking off tape, but certainly doable and will REALLY save money. Use Frog Tape and give dry time so as to not ruing the edges. Touch up on paint seepage is an easy touch up with a small artist's brush and another piece of tape.
This look on the wall can be done without a stencil. And you can use a painter's tape for this one, works well!
I did wall stencils to paint one accent wall in my bathroom and I love it! Here is a site that sells wall stencils you can paint on the wall: https://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/wall-stencils.html
Make your own stencil from posterboard and then repeat the pattern, being careful to use a level as you go. I did a stenciled wall in my son's nursery (stencil from Etsy) and love how it turned out! Just be sure not to oversaturate your sponge when dabbing your stencil. https://www.hometalk.com/diy/bedroom/budget-friendly-boy-nursery-makeover-44403160

As for the layout< I would measure your wall and just line it out. Make all the squares the same size to fit the wall.
Painting would take some patients.... Lots of masking tape...
Hello, here's one more for you to check out, it can be done!

I think this can be done with painter's tape. I would first measure out and tape off those squares with diagonals. Just paint in the triangles and follow the pattern. I don't believe this is a stencil.
i would tape all off and do it yourself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgGPcfcr82Y
