So, with a bit of inspiration from a member's post about making a beach house look more like a beach house re. decor, I realized that I too needed to bring a bit of the sea into my home. Suffering from insomnia does help to come up with ideas 02:00 in the morning! :-) So, armed with 2 empty margarine containers I headed for the beach the next morning. I had absolutely no idea if my plan will work, but figured it was worth a shot... Back home I mixed the sea sand with clear varnish (quite a thick paste) and started "painting". It is slightly on the messy side, but nothing too serious. I gave it a second coat after the first layer was dry and ended with a third coat of only varnish, no sea sand mixed in. I am relatively happy with the result...(Sorry, I did not take step by step photos, think it is easy enough.)
I first mixed the sand and varnish and then applied to the walls.
After dries, I added sea shells and other coastal decor to the walls.
I also decided to display some of our beach photos on the wall.
I think it looks super beachy and it was pretty simple to accomplish.
Suggested materials:
  • Sea sand   (Beach)
  • Clear varnish; paintbrush   (Builders Warehouse)
