Where I live, Monday is 50% off bric brac at the Salvation Army Thrift Store. With Halloween approaching, I decided to stop and find some items to repurpose for my entry table decor.
The wooden banana hanger and pumpkin tealight holder were perfect. And with a sale price of $3 for both, who could go wrong?
I decided to paint the banana hanger in a black chalky paint. Black seemed the perfect color and I had this jar in my paint stash.
Chalky paint is my favorite because it's so easy to use.
Once painted, the old blah hanger had a new look.
My old "almost finished" emory boards make the perfect mini-sander when I want to distress edges of small pieces. In this case, I decided to lightly distress all of the edges.
It seemed that it needed a little pizzazz so off to my stencil drawer. Decided that I might want to use the hanger for other seasons, so went with an all-season design.
With the stencil design done in beige, the transformation is almost complete.
With a coat of Annie Sloan Clear Wax applied, the hanger was ready for its debut.
The pumpkin tealight holder was perfect as it was, so all it needed was a Dollar Tree battery tealight and the transformation was complete. WARNING: Do NOT use a wax tealight or other burning candle as the wood banana hanger may catch on fire.
I added the pumpkin and cat to the grouping. It's perfect for my autumn decor.
The neglected wooden banana hanger won't be stored in my Halloween Storage Box. It's perfect for a display hanger.
I liked the end result so much that I bought another one, painted it beige and stenciled a green design, added a cactus and gave it to a friend as a housewarming gift.

This is a great idea. I have a banana hanger that I never use. It is going to get a new look.

I love this. Question from a newbie, why the wax? Is it for the hook or the whole stand?
