Repair/Refinish water damaged antique furniture?
What is the best way to refinish antique furniture that has water damage and the wood is separated in some areas.
You can try the iron on a damp cloth if it is slight. Refinishing by sanding is another option. If the wood is bubbling or warped, you will have to replace the top. You could add another layer of wood or tile it.

If it's just white water spots then, believe it or not, toothpaste (not the gel or bleaching kind). Try a little test area. Rub it on with a soft cloth. Let sit, rub off. Worked on my newer hardwood floor with a large bucket ring! I almost cried tears of joy.
You could try toothpaste and an ash rub, just rub in the mixture with a microfiber cloth, followed by polish.

This comes in different colors for your particular wood. Available at diy stores and of course Amazon.
Hi Debra, it will really depend on how deep the water damage goes (and what type of wood it is). If the water damage is just on the surface, you can use a hand sander to lightly sand the damage off. If the water has seeped down into the wood, unfortunately it is very hard to get rid of sadly :(

Hi Debra, you can put a dollop of mayonnaise on the water marks and leave it to soak into the wood overnight. Wipe the mayo off and buff with a lint free cloth afterwards
Rub some mayonnaise into the water stain with a soft cloth.

I've used the iron method. It works but try it carefully...
Try the mayo method - easiest way to fix!
If you can't get the stain up, you could try using a gel stain on your table, like the gel stain from General Finishes. (You would need to use the stain on the entire surface of the table.)
Hello,
You could try Salt and Mayonnaise or Metal polish. Try small area first. I've used both methods but it depends on wood and exact damage. I have also used a product called Ring Away. Good luck!
