Once the glass is pitted there is no going back. The glass will eventually need to be replaced. Vinegar and newspaper is your best bet.

You can try using methalated spirits to wipe the bulk off and hot soapy water. That is what our window cleaner used. Or even a steam cleaner if you have one.
Alternatively here is anothet method

Mix vinegar and water at a 1:1 ratio and let sit for 10 minutes. Then, Scrub with a damp cloth. If this doesn't work, use a lime remover. I've used this lime remover for other applications and it works: https://amzn.to/2Qfiz2q
To protect your windows from salt, use a water repellant made for glass. I don't like rain-x on glass; therefore, I use this product and it is awesome: https://amzn.to/2QcbT5c
Use dawn dish soap and a razor and scrape it easy so that you don’t did into the window itself
salt water stains also come off with finish jet dry and razor(single edge and a tool to hold the single edge razor blade
Use vinegar, water and a little Dawn to clean the windows, by hand or with a sprayer. If you live near the seaside, this will be a consistent situation. You can use window awnings, bamboo curtain on a porch or patio, or Contact translucent or clear adhesive paper outside. You will also have to maintain the outside window and door sills and trim (and walls) more than you are probably used to. A bicycle left outside on a patio, for instance, will rust and be unusable in one year. I don’t know and cure for the pits except to clear and buff the windows with a soft cloth. Mad, you have a frequent job to keep your house salt free. But living near the beach may be well worth it. Best wishes! ☺️
