Can you give me some ideas of what to do with my milk can?

I have been looking for a full size milk can for years. So expensive! My friend found one for free, best price ever! Now it is extremely ruste. It will take ALOT of sanding. What grade sandpaper should I use? Also, any fun suggestions what I can do with it painting, decorating wise? What type of paints should I use? Im putting this next to my flower garden, if that helps! Sorry this is so long. I am just so excited to start this project! THANKYOU!!

We left ours naturally colored, and we use it as a plant stand. "a lot", by the way, is two words.
If you want it to retain any value ($$$$) it now has, it would be better to not paint or sand it. But if you want to enjoy it with no thought of anyone else owning it, then do as you like. I would probably start with steel wool to get rough patches off and then move to sandpaper. If painting don't forget to use metal paint.
Plant it up and have in garden or on front porch.
