How can I make a quilt using old military uniforms?
Son-in-law gave me his fatigues. I haven't been through the box yet but assume it is all camo type clothing. Wondering if anyone has seen a quilt made from uniforms. I need ideas.

Hello Robin,
Yes, No reason why not! Why not make a collage/picture using fabric as backing and personalize it with all or some of the labels and maybe a photo in the middle of
your Son - in- law? Something to look back on in years to come.............Or maybe a Cushion! Maybe some bits could make a phone case, comb case, makeup bag, handbag, shopper etc..............
Thank you for all the links. I knew this was the place to come for help.
You could cut them into various shapes that would represent him like initials, favorite hobby, and such. Then applique them onto squares and quilt together.
Hi Robin. You can make a quilt with many different kinds of fabric. I would suggest purchasing additional fabric, something that works well with camo. This quilt could be passed down to generations to come. We have a quilt that my husbands grand mother made. Now that she's gone, her quilt means so much to my husband. Good luck Robin.
Hi Robin, what a wonderful idea a military quilt. I hope this information helps you. Please tell your son-in-law thank you for his service.

What a great idea! My husband retired from the military, and I have many pictures of him in uniform, I never thought to do that! Please post the project!
You could make a quilt with the uniforms and save the smaller pieces for something else.... like if he doesn't have kids yet, you can use some of the extra pieces to make a baby blanket ?
Pretty simple really. Take apart the uniforms and cut into equal squares. Cut as perfectly as you can or the quilt will be all wonky. Lay two pieces side by side and sew together, keep adding other squares the same way until you have a strip. Make as many strips as you need to get the size you want. Now start sewing the strips together in the same way. Flip over when done and stitch each loose seam from underneath to the top layer pressing them flat. Add quilt batting and a backing to it. Stitch all 3 layers together. Look for videos on how to online. It is very simple just time consuming. Start with a pillow using other fabric to practice on.
