I thought it would be fun to make some fish keychains with cute puns for Valentines. Here’s what I came up with.

First things first, I went to the shed and found a bit of scrap wood. Using a scroll BLADE with my jig saw, I carefully cut out fishes. These are all about 3.25-3.5” long.

The wood itself is just over .5” thick.

I further shaped and sanded the fish with 80 and 180grit sandpaper (using orbital sander).

Paint your fish!

I used metallic paints. These only need one coat for full coverage.

DecoArt Metllics are beautiful

Folk art Treasure Gold; this Green Gold color was really nice for a fish 🐠

Once dried, I used my white POSCA paint pen to draw on fish face and scales to just one side of each fish.

Use a power drill to drill a small hole through the mouth end of each fish.

This whole time I was brain storming funny, snarky and naughty fish puns to go with the fish.

I originally thought I would make metal-stamped tags to accompany the fish, but ultimately decided to just stamp directly on to the fish themselves.

White ink: yeah I thought this was gonna work lol

Tiny alphabet stamps. These are well loved and used.

I place my stamps on a piece of plexiglass. And always test your stamp on a scrap piece of paper before stamping the project; that is how I discovered that this read “my Dest catch” instead of best!

The white ink provides enough of a guide to trace over using the paint pen.

These key rings were from Hobby Lobby (in the jewelry section) and were on sale.

String up your fish and you’re done!

It might look more professional to add a large metal jump ring in the mouth instead of using string. ?maybe

It would be nice having your list typed out rather than hand written just for ease of straight lines and deciphering some. Thanks. I’m not always punny so it might help me.
