Decoupaged Script Paper Pumpkin (a Catalog Knockoff)

One of the things I love doing is upcycling thrifted items into a new and beautiful and/or useful life. And if I can get a catalog look with those used items, saving a ton of money from the originals, it's even better! This elegant decoupaged pumpkin is a great example - it was inspired by a similar item in a Pottery Barn catalog but literally cost pennies to make.
While I’ve seen a lot of book-page-covered pumpkins (which I love), the catalog inspiration pumpkins caught my eye because of these differences: they were made of a scripted newsprint and it was applied sideways. That's what makes these pumpkins sort of elegant, I think.
Even though my inspiration pumpkins were 10 and 15-inches high, I used this little 4-inch plastic pumpkin I got for .50 at the thrift store. Obviously, the same technique can be used on any size pumpkin you can find.
I downloaded a free graphic of a scripted letter that I printed over and over on regular computer paper. To get an old look I washed the paper with tea water. Then I made a template according to the size of the ribs on my pumpkin and cut out a bunch of oval strips before decoupaging them to the pumpkin, starting with the rib indentations first (as pictured). After drying I finished with a spray sealer. (You can find more detailed instructions on my blog at the url below.)
I had a metal leaf from another thrifted pumpkin that I hot glued to the outside, but any fabric or paper leaf would work, too.
