Easy
I LOVE Popcorn, just not on my ceilings! Hiring someone to come in and clear it out, was completely out of the question. So? We DIY'd it! It was easy peasy!

Hailey on Feb 04, 2015We are in the process of removing our stippled texture ceiling and it is much harder than popcorn. It's made of joint compound and the process is similar- spray, scrape. We use a ceiling scraper from Home Depot or Lowe's that you can attach a bag to so it doesn't all fall in the floor (less mess). Unfortunately, after scraping the stippled ceiling you really have to do a few skim coats on it to smooth it out, because it doesn't fall off easy like popcorn and the ceiling looks rough when you're done. It's a lot of work. I soooo wish they had put in popcorn instead of textured, but just as a tip to others the texture process is different. Also we found a cheap shop vac attachment that you can use to sand the ceiling (because after you skim coat you need to sand before you paint) on Amazon. Highly recommend that to avoid dust all over the house.
