From Green to a Dream: Our MASSIVE Kitchen Makeover

When my husband and I moved into this home three years ago, we lovingly referred to the kitchen as the green monster. You can see why!
We came into the house knowing we were going to make it all over, head to toe and wasted no time-we started demo on it the very next day! And like most things in life, it got way, way worse before it got any better! Like so:
We were attempting to save the old cabinets, and just repaint them, but sadly it didn't work out due to some aging issues.
We ended up removing the cabinets and adding Ikea ones instead to our new, open kitchen layout!
Our budget wasn't massive, so we decided to save money on countertops by building our own DIY concrete counters. They are still one of our favorite projects I've ever done! We built the forms with the help of my father-in-law.
And then smoothed them into place and let them dry for several weeks. They were 2 inches thick of solid concrete, so we had to convince some very strong men to come over and help cary them into place!
It took five solid months of DIY projects on every weekend and almost every evening before we had a working kitchen again. I was so sick of eating microwave food and hand washing dishes in a bathroom sink! My dad came over to help us hook up the plumbing on Christmas eve...it was a true Christmas miracle. I think it was well worth it, here is the after photo!
For comparisons sake, here's the before and after together. I have a ton of tutorials and photos on my blog- you can check out all the before and after photos here on my blog linked below.

Hildegarde on Feb 25, 2016Very well-done I am impressed. Open plan is still number one to get bigger rooms. I love everything about it, especially the light colours and the floor.
