I decided to give my old office chair an update. I was originally planning to take the chair to bits and re-upholster it properly but once I set to work I found that taking the plastic backing off was not as easy as I thought it would be.
Then I suddenly had a bright idea ...
I chose some funky faux fur material that I had tucked away in my stash.
Next I spray painted the plastic arms, backing and base with black gloss spray paint (this photo was taken after I had sprayed the base - I forgot to take a photo before I started but it was in a pretty bad state with lots of scratches).
I then went on to prise part of the plastic backing away from the seat pad using a screwdriver.
With a dinner knife I then started wedging a piece of the material into the gap between the pad and the plastic. I continued this, moving bit by bit around the chair pad with the knife and the screwdriver until all the material was neatly tucked in.
I noticed that the arms even after having sprayed them still had quite deep scratches in the plastic so I decided to use some of the material to cover them up.
This is so unbelievably easy to do! It makes such a massive difference with minimum fuss - my kind of project :)
