DIY Wood and Metal Decor Wall Art

I was browsing the aisles at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago, looking for some inspiration to pop out at me when I saw this large metal flower wall decor. It was about 18″ in diameter and had a rustic chic look to it. But best of all, it was on sale as part of their Spring decor 40% off sale! Score!
I knew this flower would look awesome hanging on a piece of dark stained wood on my living room wall!
Here is an abbreviated description of how I made this pretty piece:

Materials:

- Large metal flower wall art (mine is 18″ in diameter, purchased at Hobby Lobby)

- 1 – 1×12 @ 4 ft

- 2 – 1×4 @ 8 ft

- white paint pen or white paint and small paintbrush

- Printer and paper

- Kreg jig and 1 1/4″pocket hole screws

Please see my blog at the link below for a full set of instructions and a cut list.

First, I cut the wood boards to length.
Drill pocket holes into the boards and then, using wood glue and pocket hole screws, attach the boards together. Sand the boards and stain with the color of your choice. I used Dark Walnut Stain.
I then attached a small screw to the center of the board to hang the metal flower on. I wanted some additional design on the board, so I printed off a saying and some floral designs on my printer and then traced them onto the board. I used white paint to fill in the traced areas.
Once all the white paint dried, I hung the flower on the wood board and then hung it on my wall.
