Father’s Day is around the corner and I love to DIY just about anything. Gifts are no exception, and when I saw this fun little box from the dollar store, I knew just what to do. I’m so happy to be able to share this cute little DIY Father’s Day gift with you all, just in time for the big day next Sunday.
This awesome personalized/monogrammed box didn’t always look so rad. It needed a little craft paper, some mod podge and a $3.00 shoe shine kit to get there.
The box is from the dollar store and is meant to be a reusable gift box I suppose. It had hearts and polka dots on it, which might work for some dudes, but mine will probably think it’s a tad girly. So, I picked up three sheets of scrapbook paper with these cool skeleton keys and some textured black paper. I also grabbed a “W” for $1.67 from Michaels and I had some mod podge on hand. Other supplies I used included: scissors, paint brush, black craft paint, exacto knife, black bristol board and a glue gun.
I started by slathering some mod podge on to the box.
Then I simply stuck the paper on and started folding it to make the edges clean and crisp looking.
Here is the shoe shine kit I picked up at the dollar store. It’s the perfect size to fit in the newly transformed shoe shine kit.
Using my exacto knife, I made little dividers with some black bristol board I had lying around from a prior project. I cut little slits in the paper to fit them together into the shape I wanted.
When the box it closed, this is what the top looks like. I painted the “W” black and used some gold paint to accent it and make it look distressed. I then hot glued it into place on the raised up square section in the middle. Voila! Instant personalization.
To pull it all together and to show my guy how special he is, I put this Dad vignette together that I’ll keep up all week in honour of Father’s Day.

Which dollar store did you find the gift box? The closes one I found was 2in x 2in. Which is way too small for this.
