Obsessed With Four of July This Year! Flag Mailbox

As you can see, my mailbox was worn and old. I had been wanting to do something with it for a while. With all the controversy with the American flag, I wanted to make a statement and celebrate our country.
Ugly old mailbox!
First I took down mailbox and took off mail flag. I spray painted it white. I taped off the strips to cover white strips. I used a oil based metal paint in both red and blue. I applied with a sponge brush to get even coats.

Once I got strips done and dried. I used my nifty scotch 3m painters tape with a hobby store stencil and put my stars directly on the tape. Cut them out and applied the over white paint in what would be my blue area.

Didn't take to many process pictures so I thought I would share my tools.

Once I had my stars applied I used a sponge brush and taped off blue area for my flag.

As you can see I didn't do a standard layout. I slanted my strips.
And will last for years
I love the way it came out. Got some complements from the neighbors! It took me a couple of days to make sure the paint was dry. Hope you enjoy! It got me going to do a pallet flag for the fourth. Will post soon.

How do you get the mail box off the post?
great idea. I'm going to do this one. Why would you place stars on then blue area. Looks like it would be easier to do blue before placing stars.
Do you leave this mail box up all the time?
