French Country Grain Sack TV Trays

Last year I went through a French Country grain sack stripe phase. I did a large set of bookcases with the same colors and fell in love with how they looked. So when I came across these vintage Ethan Allen TV tray tables I thought I would paint them to match the bookcases.
Here are the bookcases I was using for inspiration. You can find my tutorial here: http://www.thetatteredrabbit.com/french-linen-striped-bookcase/
This is how the tables started out. Typical 1960's stain. Dings, gouges, and scratches galore. I started out by sanding them down to get a smooth finish.
I then painted the tables white. After they had dried for a couple of days, my husband taped off stripes. Grain stripes come in a variety of widths so you can choose skinny lines or big fat lines like I used.
I used a blue grey slate paint for the stripes and did a couple of coats on each table. I then distressed the tables before stenciling on a French typography advertisement I had purchased on Etsy.
If I had to do these over again, I would do only one coat of the blue grey paint or I would have sanded the stripes more prior to doing the stenciling so that the stencil was more of a focal point.
The stand was painted blue grey slate and was also distressed. I used Varathane Matte Finish to seal the tables and stand.

I really want a French Country look in our master suite. This is a great idea for TV trays! Thanks for sharing.
