Cheap+Easy DIY File Cabinet Makeover

6 Materials
Easy
When you score a cheap wooden file cabinet with a broken edge, paint stains and broken hanging rails (inside the drawers) you gotta think outside the box.. and create a Craft Cabinet!
Look at how ugly and beat up this thing is, lol. But the whole piece was only $8 at a thrift store, so I couldn't pass up the deal.
I gave the top - including the damaged edge, to mask it - three coats of black paint, a sampler can from Home Depot that I've gotten a few projects of use from so far.. it's still kickin!

Then I used Modge Podge to affix a full piece of scrapbook paper to the top, leaving a border. I also adhered the ribbon in the same manner.
Once everything dried, I laid an even layer of Modge Podge over the entire top, ribbon and paper included, and allowed to dry completely.

I also added an i-hook screwed into the side to hang a clipboard, since this is near my bed and I often have late-night ideas ;) Don't we all?
Since I can't use the cabinet for files, I sorted a few small bins - including half of a plastic egg carton.. great for small notions - that I use to corral paints, ribbon spools, notions and more :) I hope my Craft Cabinet inspires you!!!
